Welcome to Cambodia Tree Seed Project
The Cambodia Tree Seed Project forms part of a bilateral agreement between the Royal Government of Denmark and the Royal Government of Cambodia. It provides institutional capacity development, in particular within the areas of forest gene conservation and seed procurement of indigenous tree species, through Danish International Development Assistance (Danida), to the Forestry Administration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

In recognition of its importance to poverty reduction and sustainable development, the Cambodia Tree Seed Project aims to encourage the conservation of the genetic resource base of endangered, indigenous forest tree species, through promoting their use in tree planting programmes.

A number of forest gene conservation areas/seed sources, some under community based management, within the 10 gene ecological zones, help to ensure the availability of good seed for use in forest rehabilitation and afforestation activities. Complementary, forest gene conservation activities allow research into areas such tree growth and yields, and site adaptation, as well as tree improvement through the establishment of seed orchards.

The focus of the Cambodia Tree Seed Project has been directed towards institutional strengthening and capacity development. At the same time, collaborative partnerships have been, and are being formed to implement forest gene conservation activities.
